The art of hospitality by Ermanno Zanini

Our interview with the general manager of Burj Al Arab Jumeirah and regional vice president for Jumeirah Group

Ermanno Zanini

From General Manager of Capri Palace Hotel - today part of the Jumeirah Group - to Dubai, as General Manager of Burj Al Arab Jumeirah. What have you brought with you from your experience in Capri?

Apart from being located in places renowned as glamorous destinations, both have strong links with the history and culture they belong to. Like the Capri Palace, this is not just a hotel, but a small universe of values, passions and dreams, where guests can rediscover the value of true hospitality.

How is Italian hospitality received in the Emirates?

The people of the United Arab Emirates absolutely love Italian hospitality, whose warmth is perfectly in line with the inviting and sincere welcome here. They also appreciate our fashion, design, architecture, craftsmanship, film, theatre, food and gastronomy: in a word, our culture. Italian style and products are synonymous with high quality standards. We saw this with the Gucci store on our famous terrace to celebrate the centenary of the Maison, as well as our Italian Pierchic restaurant at Jumeirah Al Qasr, headed by Beatrice Segoni, one of Florence’s top chefs.

What changes has your arrival brought to Burj Al Arab Jumeirah?

At Burj Al Arab Jumeirah we’ve begun a collaboration with Galleria Continua to open an Art Gallery, and with Lorenzo Fiaschi we’ve inaugurated a fabulous solo show by top artist Anish Kapoor. With special collaborations like this, we invite our guests to embrace new and engaging experiences that leave lasting memories. We’ve also recently launched Inside Burj Al Arab, a brand-new tour of the hotel guided by a butler, allowing visitors to explore the wonders of this iconic landmark.

Upcoming projects?

Following the success of SAL, the breathtaking beach club and restaurant on the terrace, and the  fine-dining Al Muntaha restaurant headed by chef Saverio Sbaragli, we’ll soon be announcing a series of new culinary experiences. These include an exclusive new restaurant-club with a magnificent aquarium and several works by the artist Fabrizio Plessi, as well as a new American Sky Bar on the 27th floor.
